Texting for student engagement?

Here's a blog post about some colleges that have tried pilot programs where faculty text students reminders, notes, updates, etc. According to the post, students find the text messages "more personal" than an email. What do you think? Can you see yourself texting your students?

I haven't yet sent a text-message to a student. I generally don't like to sent mass messages to all the students in a class. I suspect many of them don't read mass messages. If it's absolutely necessary that I send a mass message, I generally repeat the message when I post entries under "Announcements" that week.
When I e-mail a student directly, I start it off with their first name.
